What identity confirmation actually establishes

Mass spectrometry against the calculated free-base mass tells you that the material in the vial has the mass the label says it should. That is a strong statement and a narrow one. It does not speak to how the compound was synthesised, what the residual solvent profile looks like, or how it will behave in a particular system. We say this plainly because a supplier that overstates what a test proves has told you less than one that states the limit.

And what purity by HPLC establishes

That the sample resolves as a single dominant peak under a specified gradient. Also strong, also narrow, and also dependent on the method — which is why the method narrative is printed on every certificate rather than summarised. The figure without the method is not a figure.
